Online Training

Online learning is an excellent and often cost-effective way to access education from leading professionals in senior safe mobility. It can be useful in acquiring more information about a specific topic or to provide a general overview or refresher on the issue.

Age-Related Driving Disorders (AARD's) Tutorial for Physicians (Released September 20, 2006)

As a physician, you can play a critical role in preventing common health impairments from becoming functional limitations that affect driving safety in older adults. This one-hour web-based course provides an overview of medical conditions, medications and other factors affecting driving, as well as assessment techniques, a plan for managing outcomes and DMV reporting information. This educational program has been designated for a maximum of (1) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit by Scripps Mercy Hospital.

Safe and Mobile Seniors: Risk Reduction and Prevention Strategies for Nurse Practitioners (Released September 20, 2006)

Developed in collaboration with the California Association for Nurse Practitioners, this one-hour web-based course provides comprehensive, easy to follow information to help identify impairments that may affect driving, and reduce risk through early prevention, intervention and rehabilitation. Detailed information about assessment tools, referral options, and California DMV reporting guidelines are provided. This course has been provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number 01985. Approved for 1 contact hour.

Roadmap to Driving Wellness

This Web-based training for professionals, such as aging service providers, health educators, and others, focuses on helping healthy seniors maintain and enhance key wellness aspects that impact driving. It includes an illustrated exercise book with exercises designed to help seniors keep the necessary skills for driving, nutrition guidance, cognitive exercises, and information about transportation planning. The program includes background information on the issue and on setting up a program, two ready-to-use educational programs with facilitator notes, and handouts in English and Spanish. The materials were developed by the American Society on Aging and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
